Beacon Hill overlooks the Windward Point lighthouse. To aid in navigation to McCalla Field to the north-northwest, the Navy installed an airway beacon on top of Beacon Hill. It ceased operation some time before 1955.

In 1955, the lighthouse was decommissioned, and the airway beacon tower housed a white beacon light that flashed every five seconds. It was apparently converted to solar power in the 1980s, and it was deactivated at some later point.

The airway beacon light is now located in the Windward Point Lighthouse Museum to the south. Only the tower remains, as well as a metal structure that may once have housed the backup generator for the light.
