Photos taken on 9 April 2022. The monument consists of a bronze bust about 3 feet tall which is elevated on a concrete platform. The plaque says, "Tibor Rubin is a Hungarian-born Holocaust survivor who received the Congressional Medal of Honor in 2005, 55 years after his service as a U.S. Army rifleman during the Korean War.

Of the 6.8 million Americans who served during that war, only 145 received this medal. Hailed for conspicuous valor and intrepidity, at the risk of his own life, above and beyond the call of duty, Tibor Rubin not only survived a Chinese POW camp, but is attributed with saving 40 of his fellow prisoners.

Corporal Rubin's gallant actions in close contact with the enemy, and unyielding courage and bravery, are in the highest traditions of military service."

Taken from Wikipedia, "Tibor "Ted" Rubin (June 18, 1929 – December 5, 2015) was a Hungarian-American Army Corporal. A Holocaust survivor who immigrated to the U.S. in 1948, he fought in the Korean War and was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during the war, as a combatant and a prisoner of war (POW).

Rubin received the award from President George W. Bush on September 23, 2005, 55 years after the Korean war. Rubin was repeatedly nominated for various military decorations, but was overlooked because of antisemitism by a superior. Fellow soldiers who filed affidavits supporting Rubin's nomination for the Medal of Honor said that Rubin's sergeant "was an anti-Semite who gave Rubin dangerous assignments in hopes of getting him killed". In November, 2016, President Obama signed legislation renaming the Long Beach California VA Medical Center after Rubin."
