A short distance south of the crossroads is the Abington Library (L), a wooden building housing the original collection of a proprietary library formed here in 1793, and the books of the Ladies' Library, organized in 1813.

The library is located on RT 97, just off US44 in Pomfret CT. Usually the trips are targeted but I just happened upon the library. The library was built in 1833 and is the oldest active Ladies' Library in the United States. Abington is a village of Pomfret. Promfret has an population of around 4300, and is an affluent town to boot.
