The story of the firehouse on Domaniewska street started in the 60s. Then a parcel of 1,4 ha (4 ac) was obtained to build workshops as well as a firehouse for the 9th brigade. Later the impressive red building of the voivodeship headquarters was added.
The brigade is taking care of Sluzewiec, Wierzbno, Sluzew, Okecie, Rakowiec as well as the Chopin Airport. It is an area of 30 km2 with almost 150k residents.
The 9th Fire Brigade took part in many well-known rescue operations like:
-the fire in Broadcast Headquarters on Woronicza in 1974 where stage designs and cables worth 600 k PLN were lost,
-the fire of Central Departure Store on Kurcza 50 in 1975,
-the planecrash of Il-62 Mikolaj Kopernik in 1980 when famous singer Anna Jantar died.
