Other than the sundial, which looks bronze or copper due to its patina, the entire monument is made of marble, standing on a marble base that has room for two good sized flower pots. Below a simple floral decoration is "James Talbot Love" and "1881 ~ 1947".
The dial plate features a winged hourglass, captioned "I mark only the sunny hours". Roman numerals note the hours along the perimeter of the dial, with tick marks just inside noting the minutes. Well, they would, if the gnomon was still here.
