Around 2017 this Fountain was made into what looks like water cascading over BEDPANS!

Yes, I'm a Nurse - a Registered Nurse - and have assisted hundreds of people in the essential use of a bedpan; so it was rather shocking, AND amusing when I saw what looks like Bedpans used to cascade the water of the new Fountain in Central Park, Wingham!

On my regular sojourn through Wingham, on my circuitous way home, I rarely go past Central Park, and so it was when I came here for a friend's child's birthday party that I first saw in person what all the controversy was about from a few years before. And yes, I was shocked, and amused! Well, they aren't actually bedpans, but they certainly look like them. I guess it is better for striking up a conversation, and putting Wingham 'on the map', than the previous 'pile of rubble' that an earlier fountain had become.

As a plaque near the fountain/waterfall explains:
"The APEX Club of Wingham built the original waterfall, pond and garden here in 1972. By 1981 the waterfall had stopped flowing and the site became a rock garden until 2015 when Wingham Advancement Group (WAG) initiated reconstruction of the site to symbolise all water flowing into the Manning Valley.

"This waterfall celebrates the rhythm and flow of water and recognises how essential water is to life, culture and the economy of Wingham.

"The WAG-APEX waterfall was officially opened on 30 November 2017 in the presence of former APEXians, community organisations and citizens of Wingham."
