"In 1865, Tsarevitch Nicolas Alexandrovitch, son of Alexander II, died at the age of twenty following meningitis while staying at the Villa Bermond rented by his father. Shortly after, he bought the property and had a chapel built in place of the villa in homage to his son, on the plans of the architect David Grimm

In 1903, near this oratory, work began on the construction of a cathedral, the future Saint-Nicolas Cathedral, according to the plans of the architect Mikhaïl Préobrajenski, professor of architecture at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts in Saint PETERSBOURG.

Work really began in 1903 on land donated by Tsar Nicolas II, but had to be interrupted in 1906 for lack of credit. They were taken over in 1908 and the inauguration took place in 1912.

Today it is the largest building of this type outside of Russia. It is made up of a central dome surrounded by four smaller domes, to which is added a sixth dome housing the bell tower and clad in real gold. The exterior is a mix of pink bricks, light gray marble, brightly colored ceramics and glazed tiles.

Inside are carved and painted icons, frescoes and woodwork, representative of Russian Orthodox art."

"En 1865, le tsarévitch Nicolas Alexandrovitch, fils d'Alexandre II, s'éteint à l'âge de vingt ans des suites d'une méningite alors qu'il séjourne à la villa Bermond louée par son père. Peu de temps après, celui-ci achète la propriété et fait édifier à la place de la villa une chapelle en hommage à son fils, sur les plans de l'architecte David Grimm.

En 1903, à proximité de cet oratoire, commencent les travaux de construction d'une cathédrale, la future Cathédrale Saint-Nicolas, selon les plans de l'architecte Mikhaïl Préobrajenski, professeur d'architecture à l'Académie impériale des beaux-arts de Saint-Pétersbourg.

Les travaux commencèrent vraiment en 1903 sur un terrain offert par le tsar Nicolas II, mais durent s'interrompre dès 1906 par manque de crédit. Ils furent repris en 1908 et l'inauguration eu lieu en 1912.

C'est aujourd'hui le plus grand édifice de ce type hors de la Russie. Elle est composée d'une coupole centrale entourée de quatre coupoles plus petites, auxquelles s'ajoute une sixième coupole abritant le clocher et habillée d'or véritable. L'extérieur est un mélange de briques roses, de marbre gris clair, de céramiques de couleurs vives et de tuiles vernies.

A l'intérieur se trouvent des icônes, des fresques et des boiseries sculptées et peintes, représentatives de l'art orthodoxe russe. "
