The brushed stainless steel Commemorative plaque is in a moderate sized stone stele, that stands about 10 metres away from the commemoratively planted Pin Oak tree that now has a hexagonally shaped bench completely around it. The text on the plaque reads:
The Pioneer tree was planted
on Tuesday 3rd August 2010
to commemorate the township
and residents of Silvan
The area was initially opened up in 1863
to provide fresh fruit and vegetables
for the Melbourne market.
A Post Office opened on 19th 1892,
known as Wandin until 1893,
the Wandin South until 1913,
when the name was changed to Silvan.
