Charlie is a small, unincorporated community in northern Clay County, just about three miles from the Red River and Oklahoma. It dates to the 1870s, bearing the name of a prominent store owner, and peaked during the 1920s. The Great Depression took its toll and the post office closed some time in the next decade. There may be 50 to 100 people living here, but an estimate would be closer to 50 than 100.
The building is obviously a church, but there is only the simple sign out front that bears just the church's name. There may no longer be a congregation here, and it is interesting to note that, as of this posting, Google Maps/Earth has no pin for it like it does for two other churches in Charlie, the Church of Christ and the Western Heritage Cowboy Church, which itself may not actually be here. While there could be an older sanctuary under that brick, the architecture suggests that it was constructed some time between 1920 and 1940. The windows are opaque, restricting a view of the interior, while the grounds are well maintained.
