"Soestdijk Palace has a long history. The last residents were Queen Juliana (visit link) and Prince Bernhard (visit link) . After the death of Queen Emma, the palace was no longer inhabited. Until in 1937 Princess Juliana and Prince Bernhard moved into it as a residence. Here in 1938 Princess Beatrix was born. In 1939 Princess Irene and in 1947 Princess Christina. When Princess Juliana became queen in 1948, she chose to make Soestdijk not only a place to live but also her working palace. Many important guests were received there, cabinets were sworn in, kegs of herring were offered and not to forget: for many years it was the setting for the Queen's Birthday processions. Juliana and Bernard lived there until they died. For some 67 years this was their "home". That is how they called it themselves."

"In the year 2009 the showpiece was officially inaugurated by the eldest daughter of the couple, Queen Beatrix. The sculptor needed 800 kilos of clay for this, which was delivered to the front door located in the Principality of Monaco. After months of hard toil, this beautiful bronze statue of the Royal couple emerged from his studio.

It was cast in Bologna, Italy. Thanks to the cooperation of the Stichting Beeldenin Koningin Juliana en Prins Bernhard, Queen Beatrix and the Government Buildings Agency under whose jurisdiction this operation fell, it was realized.

Now the couple stands there, waving to everyone who passes by, as a final farewell. The rear of the large building looks a bit nicer than the front. Supported by beds with beautiful flowers in various colors, yellow, red and orange, it gives an impression of peacefulness and togetherness."
