Old Market Hall Millennium Clock - Castleford, UK - Town Clocks on Waymarking.com

The clock face is painted white and the hours are marked in Roman numerals with the individual minutes around the perimeter marked with dots.

The numerals, minute markings and the clock hands are all painted black.

The market hall originally opened in 1880 to replace open air market stalls. It closed as a market in 1991 when larger, more modern premises were opened on the other side of the road but still provides a covered walk way to a car park.

As part of the Millennium celebrations this clock was erected to replace a clock that used to hang outside the market.

The clock projects from the market hall and is surmounted by the town's coat of arms consisting of a former castle of which today nothing temains.

At the bottom of the coat of arms is the date 2000.

There is a plaque about the clock on the wall of the market.
