The suburb of Mannofield lies on the western side of the city of Aberdeen on the north-east coast of Scotland. In 1880 the Presbytery of Aberdeen proposed a new church in the area for a growing congregation and services were conducted in a wooden building on the site of the new church. The building was opened by The Rev. Dr H Story on July 30th 1882.

By Jenkins & Marr, the church is cruciform in a gothic style, and in keeping with the city's architecture, is in coursed granite. It stands on the north side of the A93 Great Western Road at the meeting of three junctions. Its main feature is the tall slender square tower and octagonal spire on the south-eastern corner. It is the second tallest spire in the city, and is thought to have been modelled on the Mither Kirk, St Nicholas, in the city centre.

The five-stage tower features a pair of glazed arrowslit windows on the ground floor, with traceried lancet windows on the second stage above. The shallow third stage features a glazed quatrefoil opening, and above on the fourth stage is a bellcote with a pair of lancet openings. The top stage is the octagonal spire with a clock set within a gablet at the base flanked by pinnacles. The clock faces were added in 1885.
