The 1946 J-3 Cub was donated to the museum by the family of Raymond A Gorham. It is called Happy Days.

Production Years: 1937 - 1947

Units sold: 19,907 Units total including the L-4, manufactured during World War II for military use

Price Range: from a low $995 (1938) to a high $1885 (1942)

Manufactured in Lock Haven, PA

Design changes from J-2:

Closed cabin and improved engine
Curved surfaces and wider landing gear
Balanced rudder and airspeed guage
Dual ignition and compass
Brakes and tail wheel
Standard yelow with 1940 models


Pennsylvania's Aircraft

77 years after the first Piper J-3 Cub was produced in Lock Haven, it was recognized in the state's history as the official Aircraft of Pennsylvania. In June of 2014, State Representative Michael Hanna proposed a Bill which Governor Tom Corbett signed, acknowledging the J-3 Cub's contributions to Pennsylvania History
