A stone archway on the west side of Broad Street marks entry to Jenks Park in Central Falls, Rhode Island. Straightforward shapes define the structure: two square columns and a cross member with a repeated central curve. Engraved in the upper section are the park name and its creation date which follow the arc.
Built in 1890 by Albert Humes, Jenks Park was a gift to the city from Alvin Jenks, a descendant of early industrialist Captain Stephen Jenks. Its picturesque walkways take visitors away from the modern world (and the City Hall that abuts it),leading them past iron umbrellas and up toward Cogswell Tower, for over a century the defining symbol of the City of Central Falls.
