On Sunday 21 July 2019, Mayor Joris Bengevoord of the Winterswijk Community presented the certificate and the designation, with which Speciaalzaak Oonk can call itself official supplier of the Royal family.
On 27 May 1919, Gerrit Jan Oonk started his bicycle shop in the Tweede Gasthuisstraat with two bicycles in the front room of his house. A hundred years later, there is a large shop at Misterstraat 47, which not only sells, rents and repairs bicycles, but also every thing you can think of for the babyroom.
The centenary was also the occasion to announce that the fourth generation will involve in the family company.

Speciaalzaak Oonk moved to Misterstraat 55 in 1921, where it settled in a former grocery store. In 1935 they moved to Misterstraat.47,
where the Speciaalzaak is still located.

Its appearance has changed quite a bit over the years. Gerrit Jan Oonk died unexpectedly in 1941. As a result, his youngest son Gerrit Hendrik Willem Oonk had to take over the bicycle shop. He was still in the fifth grade of the HBS, but had to discontinue his education.

The grandson Gerrit Jan Oonk, better known to most Winterswijkers as Gé, became the next face of the bicycle shop. The business grew, because in 1957 the adjacent building at number 59 had already been taken into use. Both buildings were renovated in 1970, resulting in approximately the current situation. In 2016, the bicycle workshop, which is located next to the store, was thoroughly renovated and the baby department was renewed. After the guarded bicycle shed at the station closed in the 1980s, where bicycles could be rented for a day trip, Oonk focused more on renting bicycles.
Most bicycles sold today are e-bikes. City bikes are in second place in selling figures.
Nowadays also speed-pedelecs are sold. These bikes are allowed 45 km/h and most of the time they are sold to people who live quite a distance from work.
