World Peace Flame - Hengelo, NL - Eternal Flames on Waymarking.com

World Peace Flame located in front of the church in Hengelo. The flame itself is located in a 2 m high monument consisting of a glass display case placed on a marble stone. Around the monument there are flower beds. On September 21, 2017, one could see this flame burning for the first time. At the bottom of the monument is a black mamor plague with the text:

World Peace Flame
Een vlam
Een droom
Samen leven in vrede is onze wens

(A flame, A dream, Living together in peace is our wish)


The first World Peace Flame was created in 1999. Seven flames were lit by peacemakers on all five continents and in Bangor (North Wales), these flames were brought together and united in one World Peace Flame. The 'Mother Flame' has been burning uninterruptedly ever since and from there it has spread all over the world in monuments with candles lit from this flame.
