Russ Connell specializes in "softening" hard metal, like steel, into something abstract. He has a design shop in Denton, TX, and many of his works can be found throughout the area. The City of Denton indicates that this and three other of his works were purchased for $45,450, and their pedestals were put into place in early June of 2022. The sculptures themselves are also now in place.

Unless one is thinking of the singer, "Avalon" evokes images of King Arthur, Excalibur, or the legendary island's fruit/apple trees. This textured stainless steel sculpture stands 9' tall, and frankly, I see no hint of these, nor of Annette Funicello. The viewer may decide what they see.
