A nice paddle for paddlers of all levels. How far up the Sooke River you get will depends on the water level and current strength.

On January 27, 2007, 25 members of the Victoria Canoe and Kayak Club (VCKC) got together for a social paddle. The weather was cool and there was a thin skim of ice along the shoreline.
On this trip we were able to paddle approximately 1.7km up the Sooke River before the current became to strong.
Parking/put-in/launching information:
There is free parking with room for about 15 cars. At high tide there is very little beach so large groups will need launch in small groups of 2 or 3 at a time.
Paddling conditions to be expected:
Fairly protected waters between the launch site and Billings Point but the wind can come up and make for interesting paddlingling conditions. Alway check the tides and weather prior to leaving.
Difficulty of the trip:
Sooke Basin is a good spot for novice paddlers to get some experience. Novice paddlers should make sure that they buddy up with a more experienced paddler. Alway dress for imersion
