Forty-nine French railroad box cars, filled with gifts from France in gratitude for the 700 boxcars of relief goods sent to them by Americans in the 1947 U.S. Friendship Train, arrived in New York City on February 3rd, 1949. Each of the 48 stated were assigned one boxcar and the 49th boxcar was shared between the District of Columbia and the Territory of Hawaii. The boxcar assigned to Maryland can be viewed at the B&O Museum in Baltimore. Link
