Der "Hölzerne Mann" ist eine Holzskulptur mitten im Wald zwischen Metternich und Weilerswist. Sie wurde 1996 vom Holzbildhauer Josef Cader geschaffen und der Gemeinde Bornheim geschenkt. Sie ist als Gegenstück zu der Eisenskulptur "Eiserner Mann" gedacht, die ebenfalls im Wald gut 8 Kilometer südöstlich steht. 2011 verstarb der Künstler, Freunde der Familie haben sich daraufhin getroffen und die Skulptur restauriert.

Die Skulptur besteht aus einem geschnitzten und teilweise bemalten Baumstamm mit zusätzlich angebrachten hölzernen Elementen. Sie zeigt das Gesicht einens Mannes mit langem Bart. Über seinem Kopf sind Holzfällerwerkzeuge wie Sägen und Äxte angebracht, in denen teilweise Schriftzüge sowie der Titel des Kunstwerks eingraviert sind. Auch auf der Rückseite des Baumstammes ist eine Holztafel mit einem Spruch zu finden.

Die Skulptur steht an einer Wanderwegkreuzung und ist eine lokale Sehenswürdigkeit. Eine Schutzhütte direkt nebenan lädt zu einer Rast ein.
"Hölzerne Mann" (translating to "Wooden Man") is a wooden sculpture in the middle of the forest between Metternich and Weilerswist. It was created in 1996 by the wood sculptor Josef Cader and donated to the municipality of Bornheim. It is intended as a counterpart to the iron sculpture "Eiserner Mann" ("Iron Man"), which is also in the forest a good 8 kilometers to the south-east. The artist died in 2011, friends of the family then met and restored the sculpture.

The sculpture consists of a carved and partially painted tree trunk with additional wooden elements attached. It shows the face of a man with a long beard. Above his head are lumberjack tools such as saws and axes, some of which are engraved with writing and the title of the work of art. There is also a wooden plaque with a saying on the back of the tree trunk.

The sculpture stands at a trail crossing and is a local attraction. A shelter right next to it invites you to take a break.
