[EN] Near the bus line 8 turning point on Ruissalo Saaronniemi you will find information sign of oak forest. Pictures are drawn and there is illustrated various small animals of typical oak forest. There is also some insects and mushrooms. Please note; there is swedish version on backside. There is also two other signs. One about history of area and one is map of Ruissalo island.
Sign says:
During its life of several hundred years, the oak provides a home for thousands of living species. That's certainly the case. The island of Ruissalo specifically has large oak forests, although once upon a time a lot of them were cut down for building ships. Today, these forests are protected. The area is a nature reserve.
On the surface of the oaks, you can find really rare tree mushrooms, insects. The sign also mentions that Ruissalo's great rarity is the hermit beetle.

Usean sadan vuoden pituisen elämänsä aikana tammi tarjoaa kodin tuhansille eliölajeille. Näin varmastikin on. Ruissalon saaressa on nimenomaan suuria tammimetsiä, vaikka aikoinaan sieltä kaadettiin niitä todella paljon laivojen rakentamiseen. Nykyään näitä metsiä suojellaan. Alue onkin luonnonsuojelualue.
Tammien pinnalta voit löytää todella harvinaisia kääpöjä, sieniä, hyönteisiä. Kyltissä mainitaan myös että Ruissalon suurharvinaisuus on erakkokuoriainen.
