In the waterfront space along the Nihombashi River, a deck space where you can feel the breeze is spread out at the Tokyo Torch Park. And the Gold Ore Rock is displayed at the Park.
This Gold Ore is produced in Sado Island, Niigata, where we mined gold ore from 1601 to 1989, total of 78 tons of Gold and 2,330 tons of Silver.

Gold Ore from Sado Island
Weighing roughly two tons, this ore represents the heyday of the Sado gold and silver mines. The black stripes on the surface of the ore contains gold and silver particles. The holes in the surface were created during an attempt to break up the piece of ore in the 1700s, in the middle of the Edo period. Gold and silver were mined for around 400 years on Sado Island, financially supporting the Edo Shogunate, and continued to play a part in the modernization of Japan during and after the Meiji Period as well. These minerals greatly influenced the Japanese economy, in addition to contributing to the industrial development of Sado and the promotion of its culture.
