The Krone was already present after the fire of Gais in 1780. It was immediately rebuilt in 1780-1781, and two months after the fire the second floor had already been completed. Taking advantage of the town's growing popularity as a center for whey-based therapies, the inn began its treatment business in 1814.
In 1833 the building was converted and extended to its present form as a hotel.
Before the conversion in 1833, the building appeared as a sturdy wooden gable house facing south, with a gable roof curved towards the east side. After 1833, the inn was three stories high, with a hipped roof, and a shingle cladding over the basement. An eight-sided turret is reinforced by a canopy. The windows are in rows up to the first floor, while they are cross-shaped on the upper floors. The cast iron veranda dates from around 1860-1870.
In the north-east wing there is a huge cellar, probably a pre-fire structure, with a barrel vault and twelve steps leading downstairs. The entrance is rectangular in shape, with a double iron door with rustic rococo -style finishes. In the living room there is a three-boarded walnut buffet, probably dating back to around 1814, and with a lockable sink cabinet.
