This school served children in Erin and Warren Townships from 1872 to 1921. Beginning in 1838, German farmer Christian Gerlach held classes in his home. During the 1840s a log building served as a classroom. In 1850 a red frame school was built. In 1872 the red school was replaced with this structure. Popularly known as Halfway School, it was located in the village of Halfway, midway between Mount Clemens and Detroit. When the school closed in 1921, it was moved to the southeast corner of Nine Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue and used as a warehouse. The East Detroit Historical Society acquired the school in 1984, returning it to within one hundred feet of its original site and restoring its nineteenth century appearance.

"Halfway School (Erin-Warner Fractional District No 2) served children in Erin and Warren Townships from 1872 to 1921. Beginning in 1838, German farmer Christian Gerlach held classes in his home. During the 1840s a log building served as a classroom. In 1850 a red frame school was built. In 1872 the red school was replaced with this structure, built facing Grove Road at Nine Mile. It's a rectangular wood-frame structure with 4 arched windows on each side and 2 in the front, on either side of a single double-width centered doorway that has a semicircular transom window above it. The windows and front door all have projecting decorative wood molding arches above them. The school identification sign is above the door, and above that on the peak of the roof is an enclosed bell tower. The back of the building has one arched window and an added-on small back room with a door. It was called Halfway School because it was located in the village of Halfway, midway between Mt. Clemens and Detroit. In 1921, the school was closed when a new brick building, the Erin School, was constructed, and this building was moved to the southeast corner of Nine Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue and used as a warehouse for Kaiser Fuel and Supply. The East Detroit Historical Society acquired the school in 1984, returning it to within 60 feet of its original site and restoring its 19th century appearance."
