Ornate carved wooden font cover in St Giles' church, Great Longstone.

The font, possibly medieval, was recarved in 1901. The wooden font cover, which dates from the church restoration of 1871-73 by Richard Norman Shaw, has angels at the eight angles and is dedicated 'To the Glory of God and in memory of Major Carleill' around the base.
[Major Carleill, who succeeded his father in 1800, was appointed in 1797, a deputy-lieutenant for the county of Derby, and obtained, in 1803, the command of the South High Peak volunteers, with the rank of major. SOURCE - (visit link) ]

The 'spire' of the cover is carved with piercings, with the legend 'Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God'
