In 1930 the Oregon Trail chapter of the daughters of the American Republic corrected this memorial marker near the site of Fort Butler.
The plaque reads as follows:
"In memory of
Company A, First Nebraska Cavalry
stationed at
FORT BUTLER
in 1869
Located 1693 feet West.
Heroic pioneers protecting settlers from Indian raids
Erected by
Oregon Trail chapter
D. A. R.
[DAR MEDALLION] 1930"
