Located in Pasco County, Florida is the community of Lacoochee. Originally started in 1923 as a company town for the Cummer Sons Cypress Mill it thrived until 1959 when the mill closed due to lack of harvestable timber.

Cummer Sons Cypress Mill was the largest mill in Florida and the largest employer in Pasco County. So successful was the mill it was able to keep its employees working during the Great Depression.

This 2000 square foot post office building was built in 1958 just one year before the mill shut down. Since Lacoochee was a company town it has faced a continuous decline since then.
