[EN] “A giant glass sculpture is the main feature of one of the latest postcards of Madrid, located on the Puente del Rey explanade in Madrid Río. Behind it stand some of the city’s most representative vistas with the outlines of the Royal Palace, La Almudena Cathedral, and the Royal Basilica of San Francisco El Grande. The sculptural piece forms the word ‘Madrid’ and depicts the iconic Bear and Strawberry tree made out of recycled glass jars and bottles. With this new monument, which is twelve metres long and almost three metres tall, Madrid City Council and Ecovidrio are paying tribute to the people of Madrid and their environmental awareness.

This new emblem of the capital is covered with recycled glass, dyed blue, taken from glass jars and bottles retrieved from the city’s bottle banks. The new Madrid sign will be illuminated at night through a system of solar-powered LED panels, beautifying this night view of the city from the bank of the river Manzanares.”
