TSGT D. WILLIAM DOZE
Technical Sergeant D. William Doze attended Harris-Stowe College (now Harris-Stowe State University) in the mid-1960s, where his student deferment status kept him from being drafted. Soon after leaving college for a job, he received a draft notice.
To avoid the uncertainty of the draft process, he enlisted in the US Air Force in October 1967. After training stateside, he was deployed to Pleiku Air Base in Central Vietnam in 1970 as a member of the 633rd Combat Support Group and was later stationed at nearby Phu Cat Air Base before returning to the US in 1971, bringing home souvenirs of his service.
