William Osgood and John Rogers both fell at the Battle of Cut Knife Hill on 2 May 1885. They were the first soldiers to give their lives in combat for the Dominion of Canada.

William Osgood and John Rogers

Serving as volunteers with the Ottawa Company of Sharpshooters during the North West Rebellion, they fell at the Battle of Cut Knife Hill, 2 May 1885. William Osgood, born in Buckingham, QC, in 1861, a machinist, was a member of the 43rd Regiment. John Rogers, born in Barbados, in 1855, a public servant, was a member of the Governor General's Foot Guards. They were the first Ottawa soldiers to give their lives in combat for the Dominion of Canada.
