Midden in de Noordoostpolder ligt het voormalige eiland Schokland.
Ooit lag Schokland midden in de woeste Zuiderzee, die grote delen van het eiland wegsloeg. Ondanks het dreigende water en de armoede woonden er mensen.

"Schokland is een voormalig eiland in de Zuiderzee dat sinds de drooglegging van de Noordoostpolder in 1942 deel uitmaakt van het vasteland van de tegenwoordige Nederlandse provincie Flevoland. Vanwege de archeologische rijkdom en geschiedenis is het gebied in 1995 op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO geplaatst.
Schokland ligt tussen de dorpen Nagele en Ens aan de N352. Het gebied wordt beheerd door stichting Het Flevolandschap en heeft een oppervlakte van circa 150 ha. Er woonden op 1 januari 2021 5 mensen op Schokland.[1]
Op 1 november 2008 kreeg Schokland de status van dorp. Tot 2008 was het grondgebied van het voormalige eiland verdeeld tussen Ens en Nagele."

"Schokland is a former island in the Zuiderzee that has been part of the mainland of the present-day Dutch province of Flevoland since the reclamation of the Noordoostpolder in 1942. Due to its archaeological wealth and history, the area was placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1995.
Schokland is located between the villages of Nagele and Ens on the N352. The area is managed by the Flevolandscape Foundation and covers an area of approximately 150 ha. On January 1, 2021, 5 people lived on Schokland.[1]
On November 1, 2008, Schokland was given the status of a village. Until 2008, the territory of the former island was divided between Ens and Nagele."
