This memorial by academic sculptor Franciszek Swidr called Memorial of the Životice Tragedy. It reminds us of the suffering and defiance of the local people during the Second World War. It opened five years after an event that occurred on 6 August 1944 and is today referred to as the “Životice tragedy”: 36 men from Životice and its surrounding villages were shot and killed by the Gestapo.

Památník životické tragédie slouží jako trvalá pripomínka obetí nacistické zvule. Jako odplata za partyzánskou akci, pri níž byli zabiti tri príslušníci tešínského gestapa, byla vykonána 6. srpna 1944 likvidacní akce, která si vyžádala životy 36 mužu z obcí Životice (dnes soucást Havírova), Horní a Dolní Suché, Dolních Bludovic a Dolního Terlicka. Jednalo se o nejmasovejší likvidacní akci na území Tešínského Slezska v dobe II. svetové války. Hruzná událost z Životic se tak zaradila po bok dalších odvetných akcí, jako bylo vypálení Lidic a vyhlazení Ležáku.
