THE PLACE:
Blount-Bridgers House is located at 130 Bridgers Street, Tarboro NC 27886. It was built about 1808, and is a two-story, five bay, Federal style frame dwelling. It has a gable roof and pairs of double-shouldered brick end chimneys. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.
THE PERSONS:
Thomas Blount (May 10, 1759 – February 7, 1812) was an American soldier, and politician. He served as a lieutenant in the North Carolina Line and as an adjutant general to Major General Richard Caswell in the North Carolina militia during the American Revolutionary War. After the war, he served as a representative in the North Carolina General Assembly and served three terms in U.S. representative from the 5th Congressional District in North Carolina.
Lt. Col John L. Bridgers (1821-1884). As a captain, Bridgers served with distinction in the 1st North Carolina Volunteers during the Battle of Big Bethel on June 10, 1861. He commanded the garrison at Fort Macon on the Outer Banks that fall.
