The "Rock in the Road" is a glacial erratic, pushed down into Kansas by advancing glaciers sixteen thousand years ago. When the aptly named Granite Road was constructed, it was found that this Sioux Quartzite boulder was too large to move and too tough to cut, so they just left it here. Every now and then a careless driver has an... encounter... with the Rock in the Road. The Rock always wins.
