The "Rock In The Road" is an example of a glacial erratic, pushed down into Kansas by advancing glaciers sixteen thousand years ago. By the time McLouth was established, only a portion of this Sioux Quartzite boulder was exposed. It was too large to move and too tough to cut, so they just left the boulder in place and built the road around it, so this is an example of an erratic as deposited by natural forces. Every now and then an automobile has an... encounter... with the Rock in the Road. The Rock always wins. History shows again and again how nature points out the folly of men.
