So here I am in Dublin giving 14 year old Oscar Wilde some career and lifestyle advice. He took my career advice but his lifestyle led to his untimely death at the age of 46 from meningitis.

A life size bronze statue of a seated Oscar Wilde depicts the Irish poet, playwright and novelist as a 14 year old boy when he was employee of the Kennedy's Rub and Restaurant. Wilde is seated on a bench. He is wearing a buttoned suit jacket, trousers, and a tie. In his left hand he is holding a broad brimmed hat. In is right hand he is holding a cane.

A brass sign above his right shoulder is inscribed:

Oscar Wilde at 14 years
of age had his first job
here in this Establishment,
stacking shelves and
earning a few shillings
in the 1860s

Person:

Oscar Fingal O'Fflahertie Wills Wilde was born on October 16, 1854 in Dublin, Ireland. He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin and Magdalen College, Oxford. He was a prolific writer of poetry but is best known for play The Importance of Being Earnest and his only novel The Picture of Dorian Gray. He is equally well known for his wit and unorthodox lifestyle.
