"The road from the camp station to the bearing gate was called the Caracho Road.
This Russian word simply means "good," but was given different interpretations.
"Caracho" shouted the SS. Then the newly arrived prisoners had to walk this stretch in Laufschritt, chased by rifle butts, boots and dogs. Those who walked too far out of line or fell were mercilessly slaughtered. Those who were "lucky" were shot; most were kicked to death."
