La historia veneciana ha propiciado que la ciudad posea un riquísimo patrimonio arquitectónico y cultural, y visitarlo requiere desplazarse de forma singular. En este sentido, el transporte típico de la ciudad es la góndola, que tradicionalmente ha sido usada para todo tipo de actividades, incluidos las bodas y funerales, aunque en la actualidad es básicamente un medio turístico.

El tráfico rodado de automóviles y bicicletas está prohibido, por lo que la mayoría de los venecianos viajan en los barcos de transporte colectivo denominados vaporettos, que funcionan a modo de autobuses y cubren rutas regulares a lo largo del gran canal y entre las distintas islas. La ciudad también tiene muchos barcos privados. Venetian history has led to the city possessing a rich architectural and cultural heritage, and visiting it requires traveling in a unique way. In this sense, the typical transport in the city is the gondola, which has traditionally been used for all kinds of activities, including weddings and funerals, although today it is basically a tourist medium.Car and bicycle traffic is prohibited, so most Venetians travel on public transport boats called vaporettos, which work like buses and cover regular routes along the Grand Canal and between the different islands.
