Nothing is known of the primitive temple that was destroyed as a result of the earthquake of 1680. After this, a great work was carried out that is evident in the structure of the temple, which follows the lines of the 17th century buildings. Subsequently, the building has undergone several transformations, which, however, have respected its original structure. Thus, in the middle of the 18th century, a new restoration was carried out, which was evident in the façade with the opening of a window where the date of 1745 appears. Around 1776, it underwent a new intervention as a result of a fire that it suffered and that reached the better half of the cruise. In 1931 the temple was burned down, losing a large part of its movable property, and in 1944 it was restored, based on a project by the architect E. Atencia, who in general respected the structure of the building, but added on the lateral naves an upper body for the residence of religious.
