El templo se construyó en el año 2008 y se consagró el 1 de noviembre de 2008 como sede de la Cofradía de las Penas.

Su planta es de una sola nave, flanqueada por arcos de medio punto y usando mármol rojo de El Torcal.

A la derecha de la nave, se levanta el altar de Santo Domingo de la Calzada, titular de la Hermandad.

En su interior también se encuentran las imágenes titulares de la hermandad, el Santísimo Cristo de la Agonía y María Santísima de las Penas, que, junto con la de San Juan Evangelista, conforman la escena del Calvario.

The temple was built in 2008 and was consecrated on November 1, 2008 as the headquarters of the Brotherhood of Sorrows. Its plant has a single nave, flanked by semicircular arches and using red marble from El Torcal. To the right of the nave, stands the altar of Santo Domingo de la Calzada, head of the Brotherhood. Inside there are also the main images of the brotherhood, the Holy Christ of Agony and the Holy Mary of Sorrows, which, together with that of Saint John the Evangelist, make up the scene of Calvary.
