The old Málaga Wholesale Market , a building declared an Asset of Cultural Interest and headquarters of the center, has a total surface area of ??6,000 m², of which 2,400 are for exhibitions. The CAC Málaga was officially inaugurated on February 17 , 2003 and opened to the public on February 23, 2003.
Quality certification
The CAC Málaga has been the first art center and museum in Spain ISO 9001:2000 international quality certification . The certification granted by the company Lloyd's Register Quality Assurances , accredited by the ENAC , (National Accreditation Entity), is applicable to all the tasks and activities of the Center.
Exhibitions

The CAC Málaga exhibition hall has a surface area of ??close to 2,400 square metres, one of the largest in all Spanish contemporary art centers. This area is divided into five different spaces: Three for temporary exhibitions, one for the permanent collection and another called "Projects Space", a multipurpose area for various activities, such as the assembly of installations, the exhibition of the work produced in the workshops or the celebration of a specific act. In the exhibition area, visitors to the CAC Málaga find the most recent manifestations of sculpture, painting, installations, photography, drawing and design objects.
Permanent collection
It has about 400 of its own pieces and those on loan from institutions and individuals. There are a large number of recently created pieces that, due to their characteristics, are difficult to classify as a specific trend. Throughout these years, the CAC Málaga has produced more than 130 individual exhibitions and a dozen collective ones. Big names in art like Art & Language , Tony Cragg , Gerhard Richter , Louise Bourgeois , Anish Kapoor , Alex Katz , Lawrence Weiner , Kara Walker , Roni Horn , Yoshitomo Nara , Thomas Hirschhorn , Julian OpieJames Sierra , Vik Muniz , Silvye Fleury , Erwin Wurm , William Kentridge , Luis Gordillo , Richard Deacon , Marcel Dzama , Jerome Elespe , Per Barclay , Raymond Pettibon , Jaume Plensa , Tracey Emin , Julian Schnabel or the Jake and Dinos Chapman brothers .
Altogether, artists who are the vast majority among the most renowned in contemporary world art, with around fifty exhibitions by Spanish artists, in addition to other projects, such as collective ones, in which they have spent a hundreds of new artists from a closer environment.
Activities
Pedagogical department
In addition to offering guided tours and conferences, since the Center's inauguration in 2003, the center has developed a program of workshops and activities throughout the year, designed especially for children and students. Likewise, for teachers and students of Fine Arts, Art History and Ethics there are courses taught by artists and specialists, who delve into the artistic currents of the 20th and early 21st centuries. On the other hand, for artists and specialists in the study of contemporary art, intensive seminars are organized on specific issues that analyze aspects of artistic activity and its relationship with the environment.
All activities organized by the Pedagogical Department are free.
Specialized library
The bibliographic collection has about 5,000 copies.
Other activities
Other activities include film series and book presentations, professional conferences and workshops.
