Taken from the NRHP nomination form, "Built in 1928, the chapel was part of the Columbarium. Until very recently (October 1998), the original Italian Renaissance design was obscured by a 1960's style facade. The original Italian Renaissance design and decor, however, was discovered intact beneath the linear, spare, modern overlay. Photos from the period corroborate the original design and restoration is underway to return the chapel to its original state."
