Reference mark 1 for destroyed USGS benchmark ACORN (NS0234), set near the summit of a large hill that rises to the southwest of the Sweetwater River and straddles the Continental Divide.

To reach the summit of the hill, I recommend parking anywhere along the hill's southwestern flank along the side of the Lander Cutoff Road. Hike over the sage-covered and rocky slopes to reach the top of the hill and find the remnants of USGS benchmark ACORN near the top (only the pin and some concrete remain). Reference mark 1 is located about 47 feet to the southeast of the destroyed benchmark and is set in the top of a rock outcrop.
