Stone pulpit in St Benedict's church, Glastonbury.

A late Victorian stone panelled pulpit. Decorated with fine traceried patterns.

The church was originally built in the 11th century, dedicated to St. Benignus or the Anglo-Saxon St. Beonna, replaced by the present church in the 14th Century, with the Perpendicular tower added in the mid 15th Century. The dedication was changed to St. Benedict in the 17th Century. In 1862 the south chapel was added by Benjamin Ferrey (visit link) , who also undertook some restoration, and in the 1880's the church was extensively restored and partially reconstructed by J D Sedding (visit link) in Gothic Revival style - this probably gives an aproximate date for this pulpit.
Approximate Age of Artefact: 1880
