In the dunes of Berck in March-April 1904, aviation pioneer Gabriel Voisin made the forerunner flights of the first officially controlled closed-circuit kilometer, achieved on a Voisin aircraft by Henri Farman on January 13, 1908.
Le vol historique du 15 mars 1904 fut immortalisé en photographie par M. Champroux, directeur de l'hôpital Maritime de l'époque.
Il n'y a donc pas de doute, c'est bien des dunes de Berck que Gabriel VOISIN s'est élancé pour réaliser le premier vol d'un "aéroplane" en France, homologué et incontesté… tandis que de nombreux essais préliminaires à cet exploit se déroulèrent dans les dunes de Merlimont.
The historic flight on March 15, 1904 was immortalized in a photograph by Mr. Champroux, director of the Maritime Hospital at the time.
There can be no doubt, then, that it was from the dunes of Berck that Gabriel VOISIN took to the skies to make the first homologated and uncontested flight of an "aeroplane" in France... while many of the preliminary tests for this feat took place in the dunes of Merlimont.
