"Transformers are crucial electrical elements for the distribution and domestic use of electrical energy. Transformers increase or decrease the voltage of an alternating current, but theoretically they do not change its power.

The electrical transformers were housed inside small buildings, distributed throughout different places in the cities. These unique and important installations were part of the rural and urban landscape and were often found attached to buildings, on corners, squares, road intersections, etc.

Old transformers that are left out of service are condemned to demolition or slow ruin. At least, not all.
The company has found a use for them. In collaboration with an environmental organization, it has a program underway to transform these small buildings into refuges for insects, bats and bird species, preferably threatened. The first of these old transformers rehabilitated as ecological support in the south of Lugo is near the Belesar dam.
