It is located near the campground and is primarily used by campers, however, visitors to the park can also hike the trail and park their cars in the parking lot by the concession/museum area and make the short hike to the trailhead.
This trail is in the higher/dryer uplands area of the park. It goes through young growth pine flat woods peppered with saw palmettos. There are scattered sand live oaks that are native to the Lake Wales Ridge area. This trail has limited shade so be sure to bring plenty of water, sunscreen or wear long sleeves and a hat.
