The headstone marking the final resting place of Corporal Billy R. Higginbotham in historic Union Grove Cemetery, a little east of Troup in rural Smith County, TX, notes that he was killed in action during the Korean War ("Conflict").

Corporal Higginbotham's headstone has flowers to one side, while his photo medallion is flanked by a Purple Heart and his Combat Infantryman Badge. The inscription reads:

Cpl. Billy R. Higginbotham
Killed in Action in
Song-Mae Dong, N. Korea
July 11, 1951

There's not much to be found regarding the details of his death, although the Korean War Project (see Website) does note that he was a member of the 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, as confirmed by the government-issued marker at the foot of the grave.
