The foundation stone for Christ Church Anglican Church was laid on April 28 1857 and opened on November 24 1857. The church was built with donated stone that came from the nearby Dutton Hill Quarry. The church was enlarged in 1868, lighted by gas in 1877, and electricity in 1925. The clock and bell were made in England and installed in 1866
