EN: Thanks to the initiative of teachers from the Institute, this former field has been an enclosed public park and Botanical Garden since the mid-19th century with species orought from Madrid Botanical Gardens.
Laid out in three terraces, the upper terrace, originally a wood, has thick tree cover. The central terrace is a traditional promenade while the lower one had a central palm walk, and leafy rose garden, now a lake.
Two sculptures pay tribute to two different writers. In 1944 Francisco Asorey e ecuted
"Lameiro", dedicated to Xavier Prado while the second, commemorating Valentín
Lamas Carvajal, is a joint work of Manuel Pascual (the bust) and Antonio Failde (figures with rural subjects).
On the edge of the southern side, was the ancient shrine of Nuestra Señora del Posío.
This was demolished when Calle Coruña was built and the image, object of popular devotion, was transferred to a niche close to the As Burgas fountain."
